metal friday :: 1/31/09

Happy Metal Friday!

I am very excited about the upcoming Scion Rock Fest coming to Atlanta next month! The band list keeps growing and is nothing short of impressive.  Best part- the show is absolutely FREE.  Tickets can be found at record stores around the city but are limited and only a set number will be allowed through the doors.

Track down some tickets and get yourself to Masquerade early or you’ll miss out on one hell of an event!

Neurosis - Locust Star

Kylesa
*this is a drum solo during the Kylesa set when they opened for THE OCEAN in Atlanta back in May 2008.

Baroness - Grad

Zoroaster - Bullwhip (Atlanta’s Own)

Hope to see you there!

s’up southpaw

Here’s a little bit of Presidential trivia for you.

Out of the last 5 Presidents of the United States (newly elected Obama included) all but 1 were left-handed.  George W. Bush was the first right handed president since Jimmy Carter. Even John McCain is a lefty.

Washington Post has a very interesting article posted in July 2008 discussing the recurrence of left-handed politicians linked to the White House. The write up claims that “six of the 12 chief executives since the end of World War II will have been left-handed.”

If you are curious, many websites provide lists of other famous left handers.

So, support your local lefty. Including yours, truly!

happy change day!

In honor of our newly elected and now, sworn in, President (who I have affectionately been referring to as Big O.) I wasted part of my work day playing around with Obamicon.Me.

Here are a few to boost my ego:

THIS, however, is where I both support Obama and make a stand:

An honorable mention goes to the one made by my bestest friend:

and then it hit me…

Do you remember the rousing game of Name That Geek we played back in November after my buddy and I went to the Atlanta Supercon?

I was trying to figure out who this guy, dressed as Marcus Fenix from GOW, reminded me of.

Last night I went to see My Bloody Valentine 3D and one of the main characters was exactly who I had been thinking of: Jensen Ackles.

You may not see it- but in my head these two boys have more than one resemblance. There’s the jaw line and something in the mouth area.  Both have deep voices and a certain manner of speaking as well.

I am so relieved to have figured it out! Finally! Not that it’s kept me up at night, but every now and again I’d think back to it and wonder, “Who the hell is that guy?!”

the (creepy m.f.) king

Don’t trust him with your daughters.

The King’s Wiki.

From the Urban Dictionary:

1. Burger King creepy
that creeeeepy feeling you get when watching the Burger King commercials. This unemotional, plastic smile, the beady eyes and the whole get-up is just freaky when you see him in bed with a guy and handing him a sandwich. Bleeech!!

As in: Oh mah gawd!! That bug-eyed guy with the stringy, greasy hair keeps staring at me and then smiles when I look back at him. He is so Burger King creepy.

belated 2009 salutations

from Neil Gaiman.

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”
