I had heard of the Texas based Prog Metal band Thought Chamber some time ago but snubbed my nose after seeing the term “supergroup” on their site’s bio. Prog Metal pieced together like a boy band? What?? I know, I know..how very Elitist of me. But the surge of metal in recent years has been a double edged sword that has given us some amazing bands from across the globe as well as several sub par wannabes. A girl can’t be too picky about her Metal.
A few days ago I came across a track from their album, Angular Perceptions, and was blown away. This stuff is phenomenal! Their brand of melodic prog deserves notice and recognition.
Vocalist Ted Leanord will, at times, channel Journey’s Steve Perry but not in the same ridiculous fashion as Dream Theater’s James LaBrie. Leanord might bring back memories of Perry pumping his fist to the beat but has a sound that is all his own.
Thus far, my favorite track from the album would be Transmigration of Souls. Have a listen and let me know what you think!

Something about both the vocals and the instrumentation reminds me immediately of both the Stranger in a Strangeland album by Iron Maiden and of Helloween.
Good find!
